Do you agree with Labour Government plans to reorganise local government in Norfolk?

The labour government is working to change the way local government in Norfolk works. We currently have a Norfolk County Council and then a local borough council for each are such as Great Yarmouth.

There are two potential problems with this plan. The cost of the change over could be huge, independent estimate are up to £540 per household extra in council tax each year. Plus our local Norfolk identity will gradually be eroded. Great Yarmouth could even be linked with Lowestoft in a Yarmouth solution mixing the boundaries of Norfolk and Suffolk.

Local government could be argued to work well at present as councillors are locally elected and accountable directly to a local community such as Bradwell or Filby having their own councillors at present. Under a Unitary system councillors would be elected to cover far greater areas of land and as such be more remote form residents.

No - Reorganisation is a wasteful distraction from local service delivery.
Yes - we should have unitary councils.
Don't know.
